Emphasis is on laboratory diagnostic procedures. Course Credit: 3 units (2 units lecture, 1 unit laboratory) Contact Hours: 2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory per week (36 hours lecture and 54 hours laboratory per semester) Prerequisites: Biochemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology Placement: Third Year, 2 nd Semester Terminal Competencies: At the end of this course, the student is able to:1. explain the facts and principles of hematological determinations;2. identify microscopically the normal and abnormal cells,3. assume responsibility in the collection and handling of blood specimens4. correlate the importance of hematological tests in the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases,5. apply concepts of quality assurance in Hematology6. perform hematological tests with precision, accuracy and reliability7. develop the necessary skills such as technical, clinical, mathematical and judgment skills8. manifest responsibility, cooperation, self reliance, honesty, critical thinking, empathy and value for life.
